Acacia Honey is clear and light amber colour portraits a perfect jar of honey. It's adorable, floral and pure, that doesn't change the taste of tea or oatmeal. It is high in fructose and low in glucose which makes Acacia is one of the few popular kinds of honey that most diabetics can enjoy without issue.

Acacia honey is high in flavonoids, a powerful antioxidant. It's also believed to be impactful against several resistant bacteria due to its ingredients which slowly release hydrogen peroxide, an acid that destroys bacteria's cell walls. Because of its antibacterial power, people use Acacia honey as a treatment or preventative for acne and other skin conditions.

With the name Acacia, most people may think or can have the wrong notion that Acacia honey comes from Acacia tree, shrubs or bushes which is commonly found in Australia, or on the plains of Africa or near the crystal-clear waters of Hawaii.

As per the known fact, Acacia honey comes from the Black Locust tree a.k.a. "false acacia tree", usually the species of Robinia pseudoacacia or Caragana arborescens.

The source of honey decides if it will be white or pale yellow. "Fake acacia" is now also found across North America and other three continents, however, it's native to the southeastern U.S.

In America – this honey is labelled as American Acacia or Locust honey. It's sold as Acacia honey in Europe. Due to its increasing popularity in nations like Bulgaria and Hungary, many German and Hungarian beekeepers have setup giant beehives. They have planted entire black locust forests devotedly to collect Acacia honey.

The reasons why people most love this honey are –

  1. Taste and appearance - Acacia has a sweet, delicate flavour with a touch of vanilla and a subtle floral aroma with no aftertaste. It is light and comfy on the palate; you can enjoy more than a teaspoon or two of Acacia honey straight from the jar without a feel of overdoing it. Its beautiful light colour, ranging from white liquid glass to a lovely pale yellow, could easily tempt you to dip your spoon into the jar. The best part is, it's delicious and a quick-energy snack, at the same time. It's an excellent sweetener. The mild taste of honey which doesn't overpower the flavours of other ingredients, makes it to add straight up to yoghurt, cereal or ice cream. It also has a low acid content and goes well with many stand-alone fruits, nuts and cheese.

  2. Acacia can remain liquid for as long as 1-2 years – the reason why Acacia honey is so popular is since it is prolonged to crystallize on the shelf, due to its high fructose content. Which also means it is an excellent choice for people with a sweet tooth.

  3. Acacia honey renders extensive health benefits. Its high concentration of natural antioxidants and is rich in flavonoids which are presumed to lower the risk stroke, of heart disease, and some types of cancer (including lung cancer). If consumed regularly, it can lower blood pressure and increase haemoglobin levels.

  4. It also has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains substances which produce and release an acid called hydrogen peroxide into the body which is known to kill bacteria. It's also useful for both external and internal use as potent antiseptic, reverse skin problems like acne and eczema, to heal body sores, and even treat eye issues like conjunctivitis and corneal abrasions.
