Eucalyptus Honey

It is mono-floral honey from Eucalyptus trees, and many varieties of Eucalyptus trees are found from tropical to temperate regions all over the world. The places that yield considerable amounts of Eucalyptus honey share some generic characteristics in terms of geography, climate, and soil conditions.

They are originally from the Mediterranean region, and temperate regions of Australia and considered Australia's gift to the world. But now it's produced extensively in Central and Southern coastal areas of California. All these regions are ideal for growing Eucalyptus and exceptional for producing Eucalyptus honey, where 100s of different subspecies of the plant are grown. It's such a diversifying varietal wherein, some or the other variety is in bloom almost at any time of the year. However, the maximum nectar is harvested during winter and spring.

Not to forget, that a region imparts the characteristics of flavour, colour, and aroma from where its harvested and influence the quality of specific honey.

Eucalyptus honey, of course, smells somewhat like medicinal herb, with a hint of menthol. The aroma makes it evident as soon the jar is opened. It has a robust, distinctive and long-lasting smell.


It tastes as expected like as it smells. For some, it can be strong for its taste, especially for the ones who prefer light, sweet varieties. It has a taste that some love and some may hate. It is medium-sweet with a strong earthy, slight woody flavour, with no bitterness. Eucalyptus honey crystallizes fairly quickly as it has a high fructose content.


Eucalyptus honey usually is dark and dull in its appearance. Its brownish-orange or dark amber and dull instead of light amber and translucent.


The primary nutritional benefit of raw Eucalyptus honey is, it contains a lot more Vitamin B9 and Vitamin C than other mono-floral honey.

The eucalyptol compound that offers this honey its own trademark fragrance and taste  (and to other products too derived from the eucalyptus plant, such as essential oil) contributing to the healing power of this honey.


It is believed by some people to be more effective than cough medicine for sore throats. Its menthol-like properties make it a Eucalyptus honey, of course, smells somewhat like medicinal herb, with a hint of menthol. The aroma makes it evident as soon the jar is opened. It has a strong, distinctive and long-lasting smell.
